22 One of the synagogue leaders, named Jairus,(A) came, and when he saw Jesus, he fell at his feet(B) 23 and begged him earnestly, “My little daughter is dying. Come and lay your hands on(C) her so that she can get well[a](D) and live.” 24 So Jesus went with him, and a large crowd was following and pressing against him.

25 Now a woman suffering from bleeding(E) for twelve years 26 had endured(F) much under many doctors.(G) She had spent everything she had and was not helped at all. On the contrary, she became worse. 27 Having heard about Jesus, she came up behind him in the crowd and touched(H) his clothing.(I) 28 For she said, “If I just touch his clothes, I’ll be made well.”(J) 29 Instantly her flow of blood ceased, and she sensed in her body that she was healed(K) of her affliction.

30 Immediately Jesus realized that power(L) had gone out from him. He turned around in the crowd(M) and said, “Who touched my clothes?”(N)

31 His disciples said to him, “You see the crowd pressing against you, and yet you say, ‘Who touched me?’

32 But he was looking around to see who had done this. 33 The woman, with fear and trembling, knowing what had happened to her, came and fell down(O) before him, and told him the whole truth.(P) 34 “Daughter,” he said to her, “your faith(Q) has saved you.(R) Go in peace and be healed(S) from your affliction.”(T)

35 While he was still speaking, people came from the synagogue leader’s house and said, “Your daughter is dead. Why bother the teacher(U) anymore?”

36 When Jesus overheard[b] what was said, he told the synagogue leader, “Don’t be afraid.(V) Only believe.” 37 He did not let anyone accompany him except Peter,(W) James,(X) and John,(Y) James’s brother. 38 They came to the leader’s house, and he saw a commotion—people weeping and wailing loudly. 39 He went in and said to them, “Why are you making a commotion and weeping?(Z) The child(AA) is not dead but asleep.”(AB) 40 They laughed at him, but he put them all outside. He took the child’s father,(AC) mother, and those who were with him, and entered the place where the child was. 41 Then he took the child(AD) by the hand and said to her, “Talitha koum”[c] (which is translated, “Little girl, I say to you, get up”(AE)). 42 Immediately the girl got up(AF) and began to walk.(AG) (She was twelve years old.) At this they were utterly astounded.(AH) 43 Then he gave them strict orders that no one should know about this(AI) and told them to give her something to eat.

22 Then one of the synagogue leaders,(A) named Jairus, came, and when he saw Jesus, he fell at his feet. 23 He pleaded earnestly with him, “My little daughter is dying. Please come and put your hands on(B) her so that she will be healed and live.” 24 So Jesus went with him.

A large crowd followed and pressed around him. 25 And a woman was there who had been subject to bleeding(C) for twelve years. 26 She had suffered a great deal under the care of many doctors and had spent all she had, yet instead of getting better she grew worse. 27 When she heard about Jesus, she came up behind him in the crowd and touched his cloak, 28 because she thought, “If I just touch his clothes,(D) I will be healed.” 29 Immediately her bleeding stopped and she felt in her body that she was freed from her suffering.(E)

30 At once Jesus realized that power(F) had gone out from him. He turned around in the crowd and asked, “Who touched my clothes?”

31 “You see the people crowding against you,” his disciples answered, “and yet you can ask, ‘Who touched me?’

32 But Jesus kept looking around to see who had done it. 33 Then the woman, knowing what had happened to her, came and fell at his feet and, trembling with fear, told him the whole truth. 34 He said to her, “Daughter, your faith has healed you.(G) Go in peace(H) and be freed from your suffering.”

35 While Jesus was still speaking, some people came from the house of Jairus, the synagogue leader.(I) “Your daughter is dead,” they said. “Why bother the teacher anymore?”

36 Overhearing[a] what they said, Jesus told him, “Don’t be afraid; just believe.”

37 He did not let anyone follow him except Peter, James and John the brother of James.(J) 38 When they came to the home of the synagogue leader,(K) Jesus saw a commotion, with people crying and wailing loudly. 39 He went in and said to them, “Why all this commotion and wailing? The child is not dead but asleep.”(L) 40 But they laughed at him.

After he put them all out, he took the child’s father and mother and the disciples who were with him, and went in where the child was. 41 He took her by the hand(M) and said to her, “Talitha koum!” (which means “Little girl, I say to you, get up!”).(N) 42 Immediately the girl stood up and began to walk around (she was twelve years old). At this they were completely astonished. 43 He gave strict orders not to let anyone know about this,(O) and told them to give her something to eat.
