8 For nation will arise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. There will be earthquakes in various places. There will be famines. These things are[a] a beginning of birth-pains. 9 But you— be watching yourselves. They will hand you over to councils[b]. And you will be beaten in synagogues. And you will be stood before governors and kings for My sake, for a testimony to them. 10 And the good-news must first be proclaimed to all the nations.

8 Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. There will be earthquakes in various places, and famines. These are the beginning of birth pains.
9 “You must be on your guard. You will be handed over to the local councils and flogged in the synagogues.(A) On account of me you will stand before governors and kings as witnesses to them. 10 And the gospel must first be preached to all nations.
