17 Then Jesus told them, “Give the Emperor what belongs to him and give God what belongs to God.” The men were amazed at Jesus.

18 (A) The Sadducees did not believe that people would rise to life after death. So some of them came to Jesus and said:
19 (B) Teacher, Moses wrote that if a married man dies and has no children, his brother should marry the widow. Their first son would then be thought of as the son of the dead brother.

17 Then Jesus said to them, “Give back to Caesar what is Caesar’s and to God what is God’s.”(A)

18 Then the Sadducees,(C) who say there is no resurrection,(D) came to him with a question. 19 “Teacher,” they said, “Moses wrote for us that if a man’s brother dies and leaves a wife but no children, the man must marry the widow and raise up offspring for his brother.(E)

19 Master, Moses wrote unto us, If a man's brother die, and leave his wife behind him, and leave no children, that his brother should take his wife, and raise up seed unto his brother.
