⁶ But from the beginning^(A) of creation^(B) God^[a] made them male and female.^[b](C)

¹⁹ For those will be days of tribulation,^(A) the kind that hasn’t been from the beginning^(B) of creation^(C) until now and never will be again.

Prologue

1 In the beginning^(A) was the Word,^(B) and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.^{(C) 2} He was with God in the beginning.^{(D) 3} All things were created^(E) through him,^(F) and apart from him not one thing was created that has been created. ⁴ In him was life,^[a](G) and that life was the light^(H) of men. ⁵ That light shines^(I) in the darkness, and yet the darkness did not overcome^[b] it.^(J)

⁴ saying, “Where is his ‘coming’ that he promised?^(A) Ever since our ancestors fell asleep,^(B) all things continue as they have been since the beginning of creation.”
