3 A voice of one shouting in the wilderness, ‘Prepare the way of the Lord; be making His paths straight’”— 4 John came[a], the one baptizing in the wilderness and proclaiming a baptism of repentance for the forgiveness of sins. 5 And the whole Judean country[b] was going out to him, and all the people-of-Jerusalem. And they were being baptized by him in the Jordan River while confessing-out[c] their sins.

New International Version
3 “a voice of one calling in the wilderness,
‘Prepare the way for the Lord,
make straight paths for him.’”[a](A)
4 And so John the Baptist(B) appeared in the wilderness, preaching a baptism of repentance(C) for the forgiveness of sins.(D) 5 The whole Judean countryside and all the people of Jerusalem went out to him. Confessing their sins, they were baptized by him in the Jordan River.
