31 Olúwa sì wí pé, “Kí ni èmi ìbá fi àwọn ènìyàn ìran yìí wé? Kí ni wọ́n sì jọ? 32 Wọ́n dàbí àwọn ọmọ kékeré tí ó jókòó ní ibi ọjà, tí wọ́n sì ń kọ sí ara wọn, tí wọ́n sì ń wí pé:

“ ‘Àwa fọn fèrè fún yín,
    ẹ̀yin kò jó àwa sì ṣọ̀fọ̀ fún yín,
ẹ̀yin kò sọkún!’

33 (A)Nítorí Johanu Onítẹ̀bọmi wá, kò jẹ àkàrà, bẹ́ẹ̀ ni kò sì mu ọtí wáìnì; ẹ̀yin sì wí pé, ‘Ó ní ẹ̀mí èṣù?’ 34 (B)Ọmọ ènìyàn dé, ó ń jẹ, ó sì ń mu; ẹ̀yin sì wí pé, ‘Wò ó, ọ̀jẹun, àti ọ̀mùtí, ọ̀rẹ́ àwọn agbowó òde àti àwọn “ẹlẹ́ṣẹ̀!” ’ 35 Ṣùgbọ́n ọgbọ́n ni a dá láre nípasẹ̀ ọmọ rẹ.”

31 Jesus went on to say, “To what, then, can I compare the people of this generation? What are they like? 32 They are like children sitting in the marketplace and calling out to each other:

“‘We played the pipe for you,
    and you did not dance;
we sang a dirge,
    and you did not cry.’

33 For John the Baptist came neither eating bread nor drinking wine,(A) and you say, ‘He has a demon.’ 34 The Son of Man came eating and drinking, and you say, ‘Here is a glutton and a drunkard, a friend of tax collectors and sinners.’(B) 35 But wisdom is proved right by all her children.”
