¹⁹They answering said, “John the Baptist; but some say Elijah, and others say that one of the old prophets has risen again.”

²⁰He said to them, “But who say ye that I am?” Peter answering said, “The Christ of God!”

²¹And He strictly charged them and commanded them to tell no man this thing,

¹⁹They replied, “Some say John the Baptist;^(A) others say Elijah; and still others, that one of the prophets of long ago has come back to life.”^(B)

²⁰“But what about you?” he asked. “Who do you say I am?”

Peter answered, “God’s Messiah.”^(C)

²¹Jesus strictly warned them not to tell this to anyone.^(D)
