15 And while they were discussing and arguing, Jesus Himself came near and began to walk along with them. 16 But they[a] were prevented from recognizing Him.(A) 17 Then He asked them, “What is this dispute that you’re having[b] with each other as you are walking?” And they stopped walking and looked discouraged.

New International Version
15 As they talked and discussed these things with each other, Jesus himself came up and walked along with them;(A) 16 but they were kept from recognizing him.(B)
17 He asked them, “What are you discussing together as you walk along?”
They stood still, their faces downcast.
