Sadducees Try to Trick Jesus

²⁷Some Sadducees came to Jesus. (Sadducees believe that people will not rise from death.) They asked, ²⁸“Teacher, Moses wrote that a man’s brother might die. He leaves a wife but no children. Then that man must marry the widow and have children for his dead brother. ²⁹One time there were seven brothers. The first brother married, but died. He had no children.

The Resurrection and Marriage^(A)

²⁷Some of the Sadducees,^(B) who say there is no resurrection,^(C) came to Jesus with a question. ²⁸“Teacher,” they said, “Moses wrote for us that if a man’s brother dies and leaves a wife but no children, the man must marry the widow and raise up offspring for his brother.^(D) ²⁹Now there were seven brothers. The first one married a woman and died childless.
