19 Then[a] the experts in the law[b] and the chief priests wanted to arrest[c] him that very hour, because they realized he had told this parable against them. But[d] they were afraid of the people.

20 Then[e] they watched him carefully and sent spies who pretended to be sincere.[f] They wanted to take advantage of what he might say[g] so that they could deliver him up to the authority and jurisdiction[h] of the governor. 21 Thus[i] they asked him, “Teacher, we know that you speak and teach correctly,[j] and show no partiality, but teach the way of God in accordance with the truth.[k]

They hoped to catch Jesus in something he said,(D) so that they might hand him over to the power and authority of the governor.(E) 21 So the spies questioned him: “Teacher, we know that you speak and teach what is right, and that you do not show partiality but teach the way of God in accordance with the truth.(F)
