39 “On the fifteenth day of the seventh month, when you have (A)gathered in the produce of the land, you shall celebrate the feast of the Lord for seven days. On the first day shall be a solemn rest, and on the eighth day shall be a solemn rest. 40 And (B)you shall take on the first day the fruit of splendid trees, branches of palm trees and boughs of leafy trees and willows of the brook, and (C)you shall rejoice before the Lord your God for seven days. 41 (D)You shall celebrate it as a feast to the Lord for seven days in the year. It is a statute for ever throughout your generations; you shall celebrate it in the seventh month. 42 (E)You shall dwell in booths for seven days. 39 “‘So beginning with the fifteenth day of the seventh month, after you have gathered the crops of the land, celebrate the festival(A) to the Lord for seven days;(B) the first day is a day of sabbath rest, and the eighth day also is a day of sabbath rest. 40 On the first day you are to take branches(C) from luxuriant trees—from palms, willows and other leafy trees(D)—and rejoice(E) before the Lord your God for seven days. 41 Celebrate this as a festival to the Lord for seven days each year. This is to be a lasting ordinance for the generations to come; celebrate it in the seventh month. 42 Live in temporary shelters(F) for seven days: All native-born Israelites are to live in such shelters 43 so your descendants will know(G) that I had the Israelites live in temporary shelters when I brought them out of Egypt. I am the Lord your God.’”
