Judges 9:44-46

44 Abimelech and the company that was with him rushed forward and stood in the entranceway to the gate of the city; the other two companies rushed upon the people who were in the fields and killed them. 45 Abimelech fought against the city all day long, and he captured the city and killed the people who were there. He demolished the city and sowed it with salt.
46 When the men in the tower of Shechem[a] heard about this, they entered the stronghold in the temple of El-berith.

New International Version
44 Abimelek and the companies with him rushed forward to a position at the entrance of the city gate. Then two companies attacked those in the fields and struck them down. 45 All that day Abimelek pressed his attack against the city until he had captured it and killed its people. Then he destroyed the city(A) and scattered salt(B) over it.
46 On hearing this, the citizens in the tower of Shechem went into the stronghold of the temple(C) of El-Berith.
