9 I saved you from the power of the Egyptians and all those who were cruel to you. I chased away your enemies and I gave their land to you. 10 I said to you, ‘I am the Lord your God. You are now living in the land of the Amorites, but you must not worship their gods.’ But you have not obeyed me.” ’
The Lord chooses Gideon
11 The Lord's angel came to sit under a big oak tree in Ophrah. It belonged to Joash, from Abiezer's clan. When the angel arrived, Joash's son Gideon was threshing wheat. He was doing it in a winepress because he wanted to hide his food from the Midianites.

9 I rescued you from the hand of the Egyptians. And I delivered you from the hand of all your oppressors;(A) I drove them out before you and gave you their land.(B) 10 I said to you, ‘I am the Lord your God; do not worship(C) the gods of the Amorites,(D) in whose land you live.’ But you have not listened to me.”
11 The angel of the Lord(E) came and sat down under the oak in Ophrah(F) that belonged to Joash(G) the Abiezrite,(H) where his son Gideon(I) was threshing(J) wheat in a winepress(K) to keep it from the Midianites.
