For whenever Israel had sown their seed, the Midianites and the Amalekites and the people of the east came up against them.

They would encamp against them and destroy the crops as far as Gaza and leave no nourishment for Israel, and no ox or sheep or donkey.

For they came up with their cattle and their tents, and they came like locusts for multitude; both they and their camels could not be counted. So they wasted the land as they entered it.

Whenever the Israelites planted their crops, the Midianites, Amalekites(A) and other eastern peoples(B) invaded the country. They camped on the land and ruined the crops(C) all the way to Gaza(D) and did not spare a living thing for Israel, neither sheep nor cattle nor donkeys. They came up with their livestock and their tents like swarms of locusts.(E) It was impossible to count them or their camels;(F) they invaded the land to ravage it.
