Judges 1:17-19
New Living Translation
17 Then Judah joined with Simeon to fight against the Canaanites living in Zephath, and they completely destroyed[a] the town. So the town was named Hormah.[b] 18 In addition, Judah captured the towns of Gaza, Ashkelon, and Ekron, along with their surrounding territories.
Israel Fails to Conquer the Land
19 The Lord was with the people of Judah, and they took possession of the hill country. But they failed to drive out the people living in the plains, who had iron chariots.

New International Version
17 Then the men of Judah went with the Simeonites(A) their fellow Israelites and attacked the Canaanites living in Zephath, and they totally destroyed[a] the city. Therefore it was called Hormah.[b](B) 18 Judah also took[c] Gaza,(C) Ashkelon(D) and Ekron—each city with its territory.
19 The Lord was with(E) the men of Judah. They took possession of the hill country,(F) but they were unable to drive the people from the plains, because they had chariots fitted with iron.(G)
