16 These people are complainers and faultfinders, following their own desires. They say arrogant things and flatter people in order to take advantage of them.
Advice to the Readers
17 But you, dear friends, must remember the statements and predictions of the apostles of our Lord Jesus, the Messiah.[a] 18 They kept telling you, “In the last times there will be mockers, following their own ungodly desires.”[b]

New International Version
16 These people are grumblers(A) and faultfinders; they follow their own evil desires;(B) they boast(C) about themselves and flatter others for their own advantage.
A Call to Persevere
17 But, dear friends, remember what the apostles(D) of our Lord Jesus Christ foretold.(E) 18 They said to you, “In the last times(F) there will be scoffers who will follow their own ungodly desires.”(G)
