⁷ And he ordered the army, “Advance^(A)! March around the city, with an armed guard going ahead of the ark^(B) of the Lord.”

⁹ The armed guard marched ahead of the priests who blew the trumpets, and the rear guard^(A) followed the ark. All this time the trumpets were sounding.

¹³ The seven priests carrying the seven trumpets went forward, marching before the ark of the Lord and blowing the trumpets. The armed men went ahead of them and the rear guard followed the ark of the Lord, while the trumpets kept sounding.

²⁰ Then Moses said to them, “If you will do this—if you will arm yourselves before the Lord for battle^{(A) 21} and if all of you who are armed cross over the Jordan before the Lord until he has driven his enemies out before him^(B)—

²⁷ But your servants, every man who is armed for battle, will cross over to fight^(A) before the Lord, just as our lord says.”
