⁹ and said to the men, “I know that the Lord has given you the land, ^(A)and that the fear of you has fallen upon us, and that all the inhabitants of the land ^(B)melt away before you.

²⁴ And they said to Joshua, “Truly ^(A)the Lord has given all the land into our hands. And also, all the inhabitants of the land ^(B)melt away because of us.”

²⁴ And ^(A)he will give their kings into your hand, and you shall ^(B)make their name perish from under heaven. ^(C)No one shall be able to stand against you until you have destroyed them.

^24 (A)So the descendants went in and possessed the land, ^(B)and you subdued before them the inhabitants of the land, the Canaanites, and gave them into their hand, with their kings and the peoples of the land, that they might do with them as they would.

The Fall of Ai

8 And the Lord said to Joshua, ^(A)“Do not fear and do not be dismayed. Take all the fighting men with you, and arise, go up to Ai. See, ^(B)I have given into your hand the king of Ai, and his people, his city, and his land.
