¹⁹ If anyone goes out the doors of your house, his death will be his own fault,^(A) and we will be innocent. But if anyone with you in the house should be harmed, his death will be our fault.

²⁴ When Pilate saw that he was getting nowhere, but that a riot was starting instead, he took some water, washed his hands in front of the crowd, and said, “I am innocent of this man’s blood.^[a] See to it yourselves!” ^(A)

²⁵ All the people answered, “His blood be on us^(B) and on our children!”

⁵ When Silas and Timothy arrived from Macedonia, Paul devoted himself to preaching the word^[a] and testified to the Jews that Jesus is the Messiah.^{(A) 6} When they resisted and blasphemed,^(B) he shook out his clothes^(C) and told them, “Your blood is on your own heads!^(D) I am innocent.^[b] From now on I will go to the Gentiles.”^(E)
