²¹ all the cities of the plateau, and all the kingdom of King Sihon of the Amorites, who reigned in Heshbon. Moses had killed him and the chiefs of Midian—Evi, Rekem, Zur, Hur, and Reba—the princes of Sihon who lived in the land.^{(A) 22} Along with those the Israelites put to death, they also killed the diviner, Balaam son of Beor, with the sword.

⁵ He said to the men of Succoth,^(A) “Please give some loaves of bread to the troops under my command,^[a] because they are exhausted, for I am pursuing Zebah and Zalmunna, the kings of Midian.”

¹² Zebah and Zalmunna fled, and he pursued them. He captured these two kings of Midian and routed the entire army.

²⁶ The weight of the gold earrings he requested was forty-three pounds^[a] of gold, in addition to the crescent ornaments and ear pendants, the purple garments on the kings of Midian, and the chains on the necks of their camels.
