Joshua 11:18-20

18 Joshua made war a long time with all those kings. 19 There was not a city that made peace with the people of Israel, except the Hivites, the inhabitants of Gibeon; they took all in battle. 20 For it was the Lord’s doing to harden their hearts that they should come against Israel in battle, in order that they should be utterly destroyed, and should receive no mercy but be exterminated, as the Lord commanded Moses.

New International Version
18 Joshua waged war against all these kings for a long time. 19 Except for the Hivites(A) living in Gibeon,(B) not one city made a treaty of peace(C) with the Israelites, who took them all in battle. 20 For it was the Lord himself who hardened their hearts(D) to wage war against Israel, so that he might destroy them totally, exterminating them without mercy, as the Lord had commanded Moses.(E)
