Jonah 2:6-8
Common English Bible
6 at the base of the undersea[a] mountains.
I have sunk down to the underworld;
its bars held me with no end in sight.
But you brought me out of the pit.’
7 When my endurance[b] was weakening,
I remembered the Lord,
and my prayer came to you,
to your holy temple.
8 Those deceived by worthless things lose their chance for mercy.[c]

6 To the roots of the mountains(A) I sank down;
the earth beneath barred me in forever.
But you, Lord my God,
brought my life up from the pit.(B)
7 “When my life was ebbing away,
I remembered(C) you, Lord,
and my prayer(D) rose to you,

8 “Those who cling to worthless idols(F)
turn away from God’s love for them.
