Arise, go to Nineveh, that great city, and cry against it; for their wickedness is come up before me. But Jonah rose up to flee unto Tarshish from the presence of Jehovah; and he went down to Joppa, and found a ship going to Tarshish: so he paid the fare thereof, and went down into it, to go with them unto Tarshish from the presence of Jehovah.

But Jehovah [a]sent out a great wind upon the sea, and there was a mighty tempest on the sea, so that the ship was like to be broken.

“Go to the great city of Nineveh(A) and preach against it, because its wickedness has come up before me.”

But Jonah ran(B) away from the Lord and headed for Tarshish(C). He went down to Joppa,(D) where he found a ship bound for that port. After paying the fare, he went aboard and sailed for Tarshish to flee from the Lord.(E)

Then the Lord sent a great wind on the sea, and such a violent storm arose that the ship threatened to break up.(F)
