2 Arise, go to Nineveh, that great city, and cry against it; for their wickedness is come up before me. 3 But Jonah rose up to flee unto Tarshish from the presence of Jehovah; and he went down to Joppa, and found a ship going to Tarshish: so he paid the fare thereof, and went down into it, to go with them unto Tarshish from the presence of Jehovah.
4 But Jehovah [a]sent out a great wind upon the sea, and there was a mighty tempest on the sea, so that the ship was like to be broken.

3 But Jonah ran(B) away from the Lord and headed for Tarshish(C). He went down to Joppa,(D) where he found a ship bound for that port. After paying the fare, he went aboard and sailed for Tarshish to flee from the Lord.(E)
4 Then the Lord sent a great wind on the sea, and such a violent storm arose that the ship threatened to break up.(F)
