5 Now in the law, Moses commanded us to stone such women. So what do you say?” 6 (Now they were saying this to test him, so that they would have an occasion[a] to bring charges against him.) But Jesus, bending down, began to write[b] with his[c] finger on the ground, taking no notice.[d] 7 And when they persisted in asking him, straightening up he said[e] to them, “The one of you without sin, let him throw the first stone at her!”

New International Version
5 In the Law Moses commanded us to stone such women.(A) Now what do you say?” 6 They were using this question as a trap,(B) in order to have a basis for accusing him.(C)
But Jesus bent down and started to write on the ground with his finger. 7 When they kept on questioning him, he straightened up and said to them, “Let any one of you who is without sin be the first to throw a stone(D) at her.”(E)
