Jesus Predicts His Departure

²¹ Then he said to them again, “I’m going away; ^(A) you will look for me, and you will die in your sin.^(B) Where I’m going, you cannot come.”^(C)

²² So the Jews said again, “He won’t kill himself, will he, since he says, ‘Where I’m going, you cannot come’^(D)?”

³³ Little children, I am with you a little while longer.^(A) You will look for me, and just as I told the Jews, so now I tell you, ‘Where I am going, you cannot come.’^(B)

Peter’s Denials Predicted

³⁶ “Lord,” Simon Peter said to him, “where are you going?”

Jesus answered, “Where I am going^(A) you cannot follow me now, but you will follow later.”

⁷ Nevertheless, I am telling you the truth.^(A) It is for your benefit that I go away, because if I don’t go away the Counselor will not come to you. If I go, I will send him to you.^(B)
