²⁵ Then a dispute arose between John’s disciples^(A) and a Jew^[a] about purification.^(B)

⁶ They had them stand before the apostles, who prayed^(A) and laid their hands on^(B) them.

³¹ because he has set a day when he is going to judge the world in righteousness by the man he has appointed. He has provided proof of this to everyone by raising him from the dead.”^(A)

³² When they heard about the resurrection of the dead, some began to ridicule him, but others said, “We’d like to hear from you again about this.”

⁴ Paul said, “John baptized with a baptism of repentance,^(A) telling the people that they should believe in the one who would come after him, that is, in Jesus.”^(B)

⁵ When they heard this, they were baptized into the name of the Lord Jesus. ⁶ And when Paul had laid his hands on^(C) them, the Holy Spirit came on them, and they began to speak in tongues^[a] and to prophesy.^(D)
