John 3:17-19
New American Bible (Revised Edition)
17 For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn[a] the world, but that the world might be saved through him.(A) 18 Whoever believes in him will not be condemned, but whoever does not believe has already been condemned, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God.(B) 19 [b]And this is the verdict,(C) that the light came into the world, but people preferred darkness to light, because their works were evil.

17 For God did not send his Son into the world(A) to condemn the world, but to save the world through him.(B) 18 Whoever believes in him is not condemned,(C) but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because they have not believed in the name of God’s one and only Son.(D) 19 This is the verdict: Light(E) has come into the world, but people loved darkness instead of light because their deeds were evil.(F)
