16 He saith to him again a second time, Simon, son of [a]John, [b]lovest thou me? He saith unto him, Yea, Lord; thou knowest that I [c]love thee. He saith unto him, Tend my sheep. 17 He saith unto him the third time, Simon, son of [d]John, [e]lovest thou me? Peter was grieved because he said unto him the third time, [f]Lovest thou me? And he said unto him, Lord, thou knowest all things; thou [g]knowest that I [h]love thee. Jesus saith unto him, Feed my sheep. 18 Verily, verily, I say unto thee, When thou wast young, thou girdedst thyself, and walkedst whither thou wouldest: but when thou shalt be old, thou shalt stretch forth thy hands, and another shall gird thee, and carry thee whither thou wouldest not.

16 Again Jesus said, “Simon son of John, do you love me?”

He answered, “Yes, Lord, you know that I love you.”

Jesus said, “Take care of my sheep.”(A)

17 The third time he said to him, “Simon son of John, do you love me?”

Peter was hurt because Jesus asked him the third time, “Do you love me?”(B) He said, “Lord, you know all things;(C) you know that I love you.”

Jesus said, “Feed my sheep.(D) 18 Very truly I tell you, when you were younger you dressed yourself and went where you wanted; but when you are old you will stretch out your hands, and someone else will dress you and lead you where you do not want to go.”
