²⁴ So they said to one another, “^(A)Let us not tear it, but cast lots for it, to decide whose it shall be”; ^(B)this was to fulfill the Scripture: “They ^(C)divided My outer garments among them, and for My clothing they cast ^[a]lots.”

³⁶ For these things came to pass ^(A)to fulfill the Scripture, “^(B)Not a bone of Him shall be ^[a]broken.” ³⁷ And again another Scripture says, “^(C)They shall look on Him whom they pierced.”

^38 (D)After these things Joseph of Arimathea, being a disciple of Jesus, but a ^(E)secret one for ^(F)fear of the Jews, asked Pilate that he might take away the body of Jesus; and Pilate granted permission. So he came and took away His body. ^39 (G)Nicodemus, who had first come to Him by night, also came, ^(H)bringing a ^[b]mixture of ^(I)myrrh and aloes, about a ^(J)hundred ^[c]pounds weight. ⁴⁰ So they took the body of Jesus and ^(K)bound it in ^(L)linen wrappings with the spices, as is the burial custom of the Jews. ⁴¹ Now in the place where He was crucified there was a garden, and in the garden a ^(M)new tomb ^(N)in which no one had yet been laid. ⁴² Therefore because of the Jewish day of ^(O)preparation, since the tomb was ^(P)nearby, they laid Jesus there.
