John 12:40-42
New Testament for Everyone
40 He has caused their eyes to be blind,
and caused their hearts to be hard;
so they wouldn’t see with their eyes,
or understand with their hearts,
or turn, so that I could heal them.
41 Isaiah said this because he saw his glory, and spoke about him.
42 Even so, however, quite a few of the rulers did believe in him. But, because of the Pharisees, they didn’t declare their faith, for fear of being put out of the synagogue.

New International Version
40 “He has blinded their eyes
and hardened their hearts,
so they can neither see with their eyes,
nor understand with their hearts,
nor turn—and I would heal them.”[a](A)
41 Isaiah said this because he saw Jesus’ glory(B) and spoke about him.(C)
42 Yet at the same time many even among the leaders believed in him.(D) But because of the Pharisees(E) they would not openly acknowledge their faith for fear they would be put out of the synagogue;(F)
