John 12:15-17

Good News Translation

¹⁵^(A)“Do not be afraid, city of Zion!
Here comes your king,
riding on a young donkey.”

¹⁶His disciples did not understand this at the time; but when Jesus had been raised to glory, they remembered that the scripture said this about him and that they had done this for him.

¹⁷The people who had been with Jesus when he called Lazarus out of the grave and raised him from death had reported what had happened.

¹⁵“Do not be afraid, Daughter Zion;
see, your king is coming,
seated on a donkey’s colt.”^[a]^(A)

¹⁶At first his disciples did not understand all this.^(B) Only after Jesus was glorified^(C) did they realize that these things had been written about him and that these things had been done to him.

¹⁷Now the crowd that was with him^(D) when he called Lazarus from the tomb and raised him from the dead continued to spread the word.
