11 The Lord raises His voice(A)
in the presence of His army.(B)
His camp is very large;
Those who carry out His command are powerful.(C)
Indeed, the Day of the Lord is terrible and dreadful(D)
who can endure it?(E)

God’s Call for Repentance

12 Even now—
this is the Lord’s declaration—
turn to Me with all your heart,(F)
with fasting, weeping, and mourning.(G)
13 Tear your hearts,(H)
not just your clothes,(I)
and return to the Lord your God.
For He is gracious and compassionate,
slow to anger, rich in faithful love,
and He relents from sending disaster.(J)

Rend Your Heart

12 “Even now,” declares the Lord,
    “return(F) to me with all your heart,(G)
    with fasting and weeping and mourning.”

13 Rend your heart(H)
    and not your garments.(I)
Return(J) to the Lord your God,
    for he is gracious and compassionate,(K)
slow to anger and abounding in love,(L)
    and he relents from sending calamity.(M)
