and trapped by the cords of affliction,

⁸But if people are bound in chains,^(A)
held fast by cords of affliction,^(B)

⁵The proud hide a trap with ropes for me;
they spread a net along the path
and set snares for me.^(A)Selah

⁵The arrogant have hidden a snare^(A) for me;
they have spread out the cords of their net^(B)
and have set traps^(C) for me along my path.
