Job’s Three Friends Come to See Him

11 Job’s three friends heard about all the bad things that happened to him, so Eliphaz came from Teman, Bildad from Shuah, and Zophar from Naamah. They met together and went to comfort Job and show him their sympathy. 12 But his friends didn’t even recognize him when they first saw him in the distance! They began to cry loudly. They tore their clothes and threw dirt in the air over their heads to show how sad they were. 13 Then they sat on the ground with Job for seven days and seven nights. They didn’t say a word, because they saw he was in so much pain.

11 When Job’s three friends, Eliphaz the Temanite,(A) Bildad the Shuhite(B) and Zophar the Naamathite,(C) heard about all the troubles that had come upon him, they set out from their homes and met together by agreement to go and sympathize with him and comfort him.(D) 12 When they saw him from a distance, they could hardly recognize him;(E) they began to weep aloud,(F) and they tore their robes(G) and sprinkled dust on their heads.(H) 13 Then they sat on the ground(I) with him for seven days and seven nights.(J) No one said a word to him,(K) because they saw how great his suffering was.
