⁴on account of the day that is coming
to destroy all the Philistines,
to cut off from Tyre and Sidon
every remaining ally.^(A)
Indeed, the Lord is about to destroy the Philistines,
the remnant of the islands of Caphtor.^[a]^(B)
⁵Baldness is coming to Gaza.^(C)
Ashkelon will become silent,^(D)
a remnant of their valley.
How long will you gash yourself?

¹⁵This is what the Lord God says: “Because the Philistines acted in vengeance and took revenge with deep contempt,^(A) destroying because of their ancient hatred, ¹⁶therefore this is what the Lord God says: I am about to stretch out My hand against the Philistines,^(B) cutting off the Cherethites and wiping out what remains of the coastal peoples.^[a]^(C) ¹⁷I will execute great vengeance against them with furious rebukes. They will know that I am Yahweh^(D) when I take My vengeance on them.”
