Jeremiah 50:39-41

³⁹Therefore ^[a]wild beasts of the desert shall dwell [in Babylon] with the jackals, and ostriches shall dwell there. And it shall never again be inhabited with people, even from generation to generation.^(A)

⁴⁰As when God overthrew Sodom and Gomorrah and their neighboring cities, says the Lord, so no man shall dwell there; neither shall any son of man live there temporarily.^(B)

⁴¹Behold, a people is coming from the north; and a great nation and many kings are stirring from the uttermost parts of the earth.

³⁹“So desert creatures^(A) and hyenas will live there,
    and there the owl will dwell.
It will never again be inhabited
    or lived in from generation to generation.^(B)
⁴⁰As I overthrew Sodom and Gomorrah^(C)
    along with their neighboring towns,”
declares the Lord,
“so no one will live there;
    no people will dwell in it.^(D)
