38 A drought[a] against her waters,
that they may be dried up!
For it is a land of images,
and they go mad over idols.
39 Therefore wild animals shall live with hyenas in Babylon,[b] and ostriches shall inhabit her; she shall never again be peopled, or inhabited for all generations. 40 As when God overthrew Sodom and Gomorrah and their neighbours, says the Lord, so no one shall live there, nor shall anyone settle in her.

For it is a land of idols,(C)
idols that will go mad with terror.
39 “So desert creatures(D) and hyenas will live there,
and there the owl will dwell.
It will never again be inhabited
or lived in from generation to generation.(E)
40 As I overthrew Sodom and Gomorrah(F)
along with their neighboring towns,”
declares the Lord,
“so no one will live there;
no people will dwell in it.(G)
