38 “A [a](A)drought on her waters, and they will be dried up!
For it is a land of (B)idols,
And they are mad over fearsome idols.
39 “Therefore the (C)desert creatures will live there along with the jackals;
The ostriches also will live in it,
And it will (D)never again be inhabited
Or dwelt in from generation to generation.
40 “As when God overthrew (E)Sodom
And Gomorrah with its neighbors,” declares the Lord,
“No man will live there,
Nor will any son of man reside in it.

39 “So desert creatures(D) and hyenas will live there,
and there the owl will dwell.
It will never again be inhabited
or lived in from generation to generation.(E)
40 As I overthrew Sodom and Gomorrah(F)
along with their neighboring towns,”
declares the Lord,
“so no one will live there;
no people will dwell in it.(G)
