36 Therefore, my heart moans like flutes for Moab,(A) and my heart moans like flutes for the people of Kir-heres. And therefore, the wealth he has gained has perished. 37 Indeed, every head is bald and every beard is chopped short.(B) On every hand is a gash(C) and sackcloth(D) around the waist. 38 On all the rooftops of Moab and in her public squares, everyone is mourning because I have shattered Moab like a jar no one wants.”(E) This is the Lord’s declaration.

New International Version
36 “So my heart laments(A) for Moab like the music of a pipe;
it laments like a pipe for the people of Kir Hareseth.(B)
The wealth they acquired(C) is gone.
37 Every head is shaved(D)
and every beard(E) cut off;
every hand is slashed
and every waist is covered with sackcloth.(F)
38 On all the roofs in Moab
and in the public squares(G)
there is nothing but mourning,
for I have broken Moab
like a jar(H) that no one wants,”
declares the Lord.
