14 All the people whom Ishmael had taken captive from Mizpah turned around and went back to Kareah’s son Jonathan. 15 But Nethaniah’s son Ishmael and eight other[a] men escaped from Jonathan and went to the Ammonites. 16 Kareah’s son Jonathan and all the military leaders who were with him took all the rest of the people from Mizpah whom he had rescued[b] from Nethaniah’s son Ishmael after he had killed Ahikam’s son Gedaliah, including the young men, the soldiers, women, children, and eunuchs[c] whom he had rescued from Gibeon.

14 All the people Ishmael had taken captive at Mizpah(A) turned and went over to Johanan son of Kareah. 15 But Ishmael son of Nethaniah and eight of his men escaped(B) from Johanan and fled to the Ammonites.
Flight to Egypt
16 Then Johanan son of Kareah and all the army officers(C) who were with him led away all the people of Mizpah who had survived,(D) whom Johanan had recovered from Ishmael son of Nethaniah after Ishmael had assassinated Gedaliah son of Ahikam—the soldiers, women, children and court officials he had recovered from Gibeon.
