12 they all began to return to Judah from the many places to which they had fled. They stopped at Mizpah to discuss their plans with Gedaliah and then went out to the deserted farms and gathered a great harvest of wine grapes and other crops.
13-14 But soon afterwards Johanan (son of Kareah) and the other guerrilla leaders came to Mizpah to warn Gedaliah that Baalis, king of the Ammonites, had sent Ishmael (son of Nethaniah) to assassinate him. But Gedaliah wouldn’t believe them.

New International Version
12 they all came back to the land of Judah, to Gedaliah at Mizpah, from all the countries where they had been scattered.(A) And they harvested an abundance of wine and summer fruit.
13 Johanan(B) son of Kareah and all the army officers still in the open country came to Gedaliah at Mizpah(C) 14 and said to him, “Don’t you know that Baalis king of the Ammonites(D) has sent Ishmael(E) son of Nethaniah to take your life?” But Gedaliah son of Ahikam did not believe them.
