27 For this is what the Lord says:

The whole land will be a desolation,(A)
but I will not finish it off.(B)
28 Because of this, the earth will mourn;(C)
the skies above will grow dark.(D)
I have spoken; I have planned,
and I will not relent or turn back from it.(E)

29 Every city flees(F)
at the sound of the horseman and the archer.
They enter the thickets
and climb among the rocks.(G)
Every city is abandoned;
no inhabitant is left.

    and the heavens above grow dark,(D)
because I have spoken and will not relent,(E)
    I have decided and will not turn back.(F)

29 At the sound of horsemen and archers(G)
    every town takes to flight.(H)
Some go into the thickets;
    some climb up among the rocks.(I)
All the towns are deserted;(J)
    no one lives in them.
