Jeremiah 37:18-20

Good News Translation

¹⁸Then I asked, “What crime have I committed against you or your officials or this people, to make you put me in prison? ¹⁹What happened to your prophets who told you that the king of Babylonia would not attack you or the country? ²⁰And now, Your Majesty, I beg you to listen to me and do what I ask. Please do not send me back to the prison in Jonathan's house. If you do, I will surely die there.”

¹⁸Then Jeremiah said to King Zedekiah, “What crime^(A) have I committed against you or your attendants or this people, that you have put me in prison? ¹⁹Where are your prophets^(B) who prophesied to you, ‘The king of Babylon will not attack you or this land’? ²⁰But now, my lord the king, please listen. Let me bring my petition before you: Do not send me back to the house of Jonathan the secretary, or I will die there.”^(C)

¹⁸Moreover Jeremiah said unto king Zedekiah, What have I offended against thee, or against thy servants, or against this people, that ye have put me in prison?

¹⁹Where are now your prophets which prophesied unto you, saying, The king of Babylon shall not come against you, nor against this land?

²⁰Therefore hear now, I pray thee, O my lord the king: let my supplication, I pray thee, be accepted before thee; that thou cause me not to return to the house of Jonathan the scribe, lest I die there.
