14 The words of Jonadab, Rechab’s son, by which he commanded his children not to drink wine, have been upheld: to this day they have not drunk wine; they obeyed their ancestor’s command. I, however, have spoken to you time and again. But you did not obey me!(A) 15 Time and again I sent you all my servants the prophets, saying: Turn away, each of you, from your evil way and reform your actions! Do not follow other gods to serve them that you may remain in the land which I gave you and your ancestors. But you did not pay attention. You did not obey me.(B) 16 Yes, the children of Jonadab, Rechab’s son, upheld the command which their father laid on them. But this people has not obeyed me!

14 ‘Jehonadab son of Rekab ordered his descendants not to drink wine and this command has been kept. To this day they do not drink wine, because they obey their forefather’s command.(A) But I have spoken to you again and again,(B) yet you have not obeyed(C) me. 15 Again and again I sent all my servants the prophets(D) to you. They said, “Each of you must turn(E) from your wicked ways and reform(F) your actions; do not follow other gods(G) to serve them. Then you will live in the land(H) I have given to you and your ancestors.” But you have not paid attention or listened(I) to me. 16 The descendants of Jehonadab son of Rekab have carried out the command their forefather(J) gave them, but these people have not obeyed me.’
