23 But when our ancestors took over the land, they did not obey you. And now you have punished Israel with disaster. 24 Jerusalem is under attack, and we suffer from hunger and disease. The Babylonians have already built dirt ramps up to the walls of our city, and you can see that Jerusalem will be captured just as you said.

25 So why did you tell me to get some witnesses and buy a field with my silver, when Jerusalem is about to be captured by the Babylonians?

23 They came in and took possession(A) of it, but they did not obey you or follow your law;(B) they did not do what you commanded them to do. So you brought all this disaster(C) on them.

24 “See how the siege ramps(D) are built up to take the city. Because of the sword, famine and plague,(E) the city will be given into the hands of the Babylonians who are attacking it. What you said(F) has happened,(G) as you now see. 25 And though the city will be given into the hands of the Babylonians, you, Sovereign Lord, say to me, ‘Buy the field(H) with silver and have the transaction witnessed.(I)’”
