Jeremiah 31:18-20
Legacy Standard Bible
18 I have surely heard Ephraim (A)grieving,
‘You have (B)chastised me, and I was chastised,
Like an untrained (C)calf;
(D)Cause me to return that I may return,
For You are Yahweh my God.
19 For after I turned away, I (E)repented;
And after I was instructed, I (F)slapped my thigh;
I was (G)ashamed and also dishonored
Because I bore the reproach of my youth.’
20 Is (H)Ephraim My dear son?
Is he a delightful child?
Indeed, as often as I have spoken against him,
I certainly still remember him;
Therefore My [a](I)inmost being yearns for him;
I will surely (J)have compassion on him,” declares Yahweh.

New International Version
18 “I have surely heard Ephraim’s moaning:
‘You disciplined(A) me like an unruly calf,(B)
and I have been disciplined.
Restore(C) me, and I will return,
because you are the Lord my God.
19 After I strayed,(D)
I repented;
after I came to understand,
I beat(E) my breast.
I was ashamed(F) and humiliated
because I bore the disgrace of my youth.’(G)
20 Is not Ephraim my dear son,
the child(H) in whom I delight?
Though I often speak against him,
I still remember(I) him.
Therefore my heart yearns for him;
I have great compassion(J) for him,”
declares the Lord.
