9 They will answer, ‘Because they abandoned the covenant(A) of Yahweh their God and worshiped and served other gods.’”(B)
A Message Concerning Shallum
10 Do not weep for the dead;
do not mourn for him.
Weep bitterly for the one[a] who has gone away,
for he will never return again
and see his native land.
11 For this is what the Lord says concerning Shallum(C) son of Josiah, king of Judah, who became king in place of his father Josiah: “He has left this place—he will never return here again,

9 And the answer will be: ‘Because they have forsaken the covenant of the Lord their God and have worshiped and served other gods.(A)’”
10 Do not weep for the dead(B) king or mourn(C) his loss;
rather, weep bitterly for him who is exiled,
because he will never return(D)
nor see his native land again.
11 For this is what the Lord says about Shallum[a](E) son of Josiah, who succeeded his father as king of Judah but has gone from this place: “He will never return.
