⁵ “The days are coming,” declares the Lord,
    “when I will raise up for David^[a] a righteous Branch,^(A)
a King^(B) who will reign^(C) wisely
    and do what is just and right^(D) in the land.

¹² But days are coming,”
    declares the Lord,
“when I will send men who pour from pitchers,
    and they will pour her out;
they will empty her pitchers
    and smash her jars.

² But the days are coming,”
    declares the Lord,
“when I will sound the battle cry^(A)
    against Rabbah^(B) of the Ammonites;
it will become a mound of ruins,^(C)
    and its surrounding villages will be set on fire.
Then Israel will drive out
    those who drove her out,^(D)”
says the Lord.

⁴⁷ For the time will surely come
    when I will punish the idols^(A) of Babylon;
her whole land will be disgraced^(B)
    and her slain will all lie fallen within her.^(C)

⁵² “But days are coming,” declares the Lord,
    “when I will punish her idols,^(A)
and throughout her land
    the wounded will groan.^(B)
