Isaiah 40:2-4

2 “Speak kind words to Jerusalem. Call out to her that her time of war has ended, that her sin has been taken away, and that she has received from the Lord’s hand twice as much for all her sins.”

3 A voice is calling, “Make the way ready for the Lord in the desert. Make the road in the desert straight for our God. 4 Every valley will be lifted up and every mountain and hill will be brought down. The turns in the road will be made straight and the bad places will be made smooth.

New International Version

2 Speak tenderly(A) to Jerusalem,
    and proclaim to her
that her hard service(B) has been completed,(C)
    that her sin has been paid for,(D)
that she has received from the Lord’s hand
    double(E) for all her sins.

3 A voice of one calling:
“In the wilderness prepare
    the way(F) for the Lord[a];
make straight(G) in the desert
    a highway for our God.[b](H)
4 Every valley shall be raised up,(I)
    every mountain and hill(J) made low;
the rough ground shall become level,(K)
    the rugged places a plain.
