Isaiah 22:21-23

New English Translation

²¹I will put your robe on him, tie your belt around him, and transfer your authority to him.^[a] He will become a protector of^[b] the residents of Jerusalem and of the people^[c] of Judah. ²²I will place the key^[d] to the house of David on his shoulder. When he opens the door, no one can close it; when he closes the door, no one can open it. ²³I will fasten him like a peg into a solid place;^[e] he will bring honor and respect to his father’s family.^[f]

New International Version

²¹I will clothe him with your robe and fasten your sash^(A) around him and hand your authority^(B) over to him. He will be a father to those who live in Jerusalem and to the people of Judah. ²²I will place on his shoulder^(C) the key^(D) to the house of David;^(E) what he opens no one can shut, and what he shuts no one can open.^(F) ²³I will drive him like a peg^(G) into a firm place;^(H) he will become a seat^[a] of honor^(I) for the house of his father.
